First joint webinar in cooperation with ICAO

IATA and UPU have organized 7 webinars since 2022, all of which were recognized by participants as highly relevant and valuable to both the postal and air transport industries. On 27 May 2025, the global postal and aviation communities came together for a landmark event—the 1st joint webinar hosted by IATA and UPU, in cooperation with ICAO, focused on enhancing the safety and security of airmail.

Webinar Theme: Enhancing airmail safety and security – Current trends and future directions

Held online and attended by 1,072 participants, the session marked a significant step forward in fostering collaboration across sectors to address evolving challenges in the postal supply chain.

The webinar explored the latest trends and future directions in airmail security, emphasizing the importance of regulatory alignment, technological integration, and cross-sector cooperation. Experts from the postal, aviation, and law enforcement sectors shared insights on handling airmail, ensuring regulatory compliance, and combating criminal activities within the global mail network.

A key takeaway from the session was the growing need for seamless integration between postal operators, airlines, and civil aviation authorities, supported by robust frameworks and shared responsibilities. The webinar highlighted how collaboration between civil aviation authorities, postal operators, and airlines can drive innovation and resilience in the face of emerging threats.

This was the first of two webinars planned for 2025. Please stay tuned for the next session as we continue to build a safer, more secure future for global airmail.
